Pascal Report to SC22 Plenary July 2001

The current versions of the Pascal and Extended Pascal standards
are under maintenance within J9; no major development is
contemplated.

During the last year, ISO/IEC 7185:1990 Pascal (the simple
language), was confirmed for a further five years.

ISO/IEC 10206:1991 (Extended Pascal) is currently due for
reconfirmation. All the people involved in the maintenance
of this standard firmly believe that it should be reaffirmed
for another five years. It is still used in various USENET
newsgroups as a reference, and implementors of the language
have found the definition as it stands to be very clear and
complete; as a consequence there is not much pressure for
revision.

It should also be recorded that there continues to be interest
in the Pascal Validation Suite, not only for its primary purpose
of determining adherence to ISO/IEC 7185, but also viewed as a
set of programs to explore many aspects of implementations that
do not set out to conform.
