MEETING NOTICE AND DRAFT AGENDA
ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG4 - COBOL Meeting 20
WG4 meeting 20 will be held November 16-20, 1998 in Carmel, California,
USA. The purpose of the meeting is to process comments arising from a WG4
internal quality review of the COBOL draft that is scheduled for Final CD
ballot in early 1999.
In order to work closely with J4, the NCITS technical committee
responsible for detailed development of the draft, WG4 meeting 20 will be
co-located with J4 meeting 216. WG4 meeting sessions will be interspersed
with J4 meeting sessions. WG4 delegates and liaisons who are not also
members of J4 are invited to participate as guests in J4 sessions.
WG4 sessions are open only to officially-appointed delegations and
liaisons. Should any reader of this notice require information on how to
contact the appropriate national body for appointment to a delegation,
contact the WG4 convener.
National bodies are requested to send their delegation list to the
convener and host 1 month before the meeting via email or fax:
Convener: Ann Wallace email: [email protected], fax +1 408 463-2425
Host: Don Schricker email: [email protected], fax +1 978 887-6313
A meeting invitation with hotel and travel information and a draft agenda
follow.
Regards,
Ann Wallace, Convener

MEETING INVITATION
ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG4 - COBOL - Meeting #20
FROM: Don Schricker
Micro Focus is pleased to host the November 16-20, 1998, WG4 meeting, co-
located with the November 15-20, 1998 J4 COBOL meeting, at Carmel Mission Inn
in Carmel, California, USA. The Carmel Mission Inn is located at:
3665 Rio Road
Carmel, CA 93923
Reservations must be made by Wednesday, October 7, 1998, and guaranteed
with a credit card or check:
Tel: +1 408 624-1841
800 348-9090 (within the U.S.A)
Fax: +1 408 624-8684
The block of rooms for the meeting is under the name "WG4/J4 COBOL
Committee" The hotel's cancellation requirements are more stringent than
we are used to -- cancellations must be made more than 72 hours ahead of
your arrival date or there will be a 1-day charge. There will also be a
1-day charge for early departure unless you give 48 hours notice.
Room rates are:
Friday and Saturday, November 13, 14, 20, 21: $109 single/double
($15 for one additional person)
Sunday thru Thursday, November 15-19: $ 69 single/double
($15 for one additional person)
plus local and state taxes, currently 10.5 %.
The check-in time at the hotel is 4:00 p.m. The hotel has smoking rooms
and non-smoking rooms, a pool, 2 hot-tubs, and there is a refrigerator in
every room. There are only a few rooms with double phone jacks; if you
want one, ask for a room on the ground floor in Building A.
You can fly into San Francisco, San Jose, or Monterey. If you do not rent
a car, I recommend you fly into Monterey because you will have to take a
taxi from the airport -- the hotel does not have a shuttle.
If you are driving to the Carmel Mission Inn from San Francisco airport
or San Jose airport:
- Take Highway 101 south through Gilroy, then
- Highway 156 west, which flows into
- Highway 1 south
- Stay on Highway 1 south until you reach Rio Road,
- Turn left onto Rio -- the Carmel Mission Inn is near the left corner
after you turn onto Rio, but you will need to go to the first
traffic light and make a U-turn to get to the entrance driveway.
Be sure to take the exit for 156 west, and not the one for 156 east.
Driving time from San Jose airport is about 1.5 hours.
If you are driving from Monterey airport:
- Take Highway 68 toward Monterey, then
- Highway 1 south.
My guess is that driving time is about 20 to 25 minutes.
There are a number of good restaurants within 5 minutes walking distance
of the hotel. The weather might be warm or might be chilly in the
daytime; will definitely be chilly in the evening; and rain is possible.
If you have any questions, contact me by email or phone.
I look forward to seeing you in Carmel.
Regards,
Don Schricker
