SC22/WG20 N1093 From: owner-sc22wg20@dkuug.dk on behalf of Kenneth Whistler [kenw@sybase.com] Sent: Tuesday, June 01, 2004 8:28 PM To: sc22wg20@dkuug.dk Cc: kenw@sybase.com Subject: (SC22WG20.4763) WG20 meeting WG20 participants. Keld Simonsen invited WG20 to hold a meeting at Danish Standards, next week, 2004-06-07/09. I appreciate this invitation, but it is unclear to me that there is sufficient business to date to warrant a formal, 3-day, face-to-face meeting in Copenhagen. The only official project business that WG20 has open at the moment is resolution of the ballot comments to FCD3 15897, so that we can progress that document to publication. As yet, we do not have the final disposition of comments (WG20 N1082) or the final text for FDIS 15897 (WG20 N1083) in hand, even though those were supposed to be distributed for review some months ago. Because of this, I don't see how we can successfully manage to deal with those documents next week, even if the drafts did manage to turn up at the meeting itself. Until we progress through the editorial review steps specified by R2003-10-04 from the last meeting, I don't see how we can justify a face-to-face meeting to deal with documents that don't exist yet. I see no other items of business for WG20 at the moment that cannot be handled simply by an email resolution or a short conference call, if necessary. And since there is no substantial agenda item until we have the final text for FDIS 15897 in hand, even that would seem premature to me. Furthermore, based on the situation currently, I certainly cannot justify a 3-day trip to Copenhagen to my own management. Accordingly, I would like to thank Danish Standards for offering to host a meeting next week, but cannot see sufficient reason to proceed with it right now. When we have the final documents in hand for FDIS 15897 we can discuss whether a face-to-face meeting or a conference call meeting would be needed to finish off that business. Regards, --Ken Whistler
